Singles League 2024/25 – Rules

  1. The first rule of Singles League is…….please do talk about Singles League!
  2. Remember this is meant to be FUN, enjoy it and play games in good spirit.
  3. Turn up on time per the times displayed against your zone/position in the league.
  4. If you are unable to attend a session, it is not really a problem, it may just mean that player positions move around you that week if lower positioned players beat people above you. You do not need to inform us if you are not able to make it.  Players in that zone will simply have more time to play more games if this is the case.
  5. Upon arrival, see who else has turned up, and using the Singles League Leaderboard (physical boards with player name cards included), see who you may look to challenge to a game.
  6. Try to stick to challenging players up to 4 place above you initially. If there aren’t enough at that session, then you may challenge a little higher.
  7. You should not have more than un-played games on the Order of Play sheet at any time (i.e. please ensure everyone plays in a fair order during the session).
  8. You should be able to play 2 games at least each week, however may play more, up until your zone’s hour is complete.
  9. Once the next zone starts, you are able to leave.
  10. Games are simply one game to 21 points, with setting to win by two clear points, maxing out at 29-29 when it is then first to 30 points.
  11. Shuttles will be provided. They are limited, so please do try to look after them and make them last where possible.
  12. Upon completion of your game, you must then record your result on the Order of Play sheet, and once added to the sheet, you can physically move positions on the physical Singles League Leaderboard.
  13. League Leaderboard positions must be made in order of the results recorded on the Order of Play sheet. Note that this may result in some players being able to jump more than 4 places if a match before them produced a certain result.
  14. If any errors are made, the Singles League administrator(s) will adjust to the correct position after the session, ahead of the next session.
  15. The Singles League administrator(s) may allow players to enter the league at a later date depending upon circumstances. Their entry position will also be determined by the administrator(s), which will likely be the bottom of the zone in which they are best suited to start in.
  16. The Singles League Leaderboard will likely be published on the Isle of Man Badminton Association Facebook page and social media channels.
  17. If you have provided consent, we may also publish photos, videos and statistics of the sessions/games.
  18. In order to play, you should be appropriately insured for sports. The simplest way to do this is to be a member of Badminton England.  If you are a member of a registered club, they will usually register you on your behalf.  If you are unsure, please contact your club and ask them for your Badminton England membership number.
  19. If you are not part of a registered club, you are still able to become a member of Badminton England, and obtain a ‘Compete (non-resident)’ membership directly by visiting the website Signup – JustGo, and signing up. Follow the instructions and obtain the ‘Compete (non-resident)’ membership.  This will allow you to compete in any Badminton England competition and also includes insurance cover for sports injuries and physiotherapy.  Failing this, you should have your own private sports insurance in order to play in the Singles League.
  20. Any queries or disputes should be directed to the Singles League administrator(s) at performance@iombadminton.com, however if played in the spirit intended, we would not anticipate there being any disputes
  21. The Singles League administrator(s) decisions will be final.
